Mogadishu (HOL) — Somalia’s military court on Monday
executed two convicted al-Shabaab members by firing squad after finding them
guilty of involvement in killings and ambush attacks.
The executed men were identified as Ibrahim Adan Madeey and
Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, known within the group as Maaxi and Yoonis.
According to the court, both were part of the group’s
military wing and participated in ambush operations and targeted killings.
The court stated that the two militants were responsible for
murders in Mogadishu. Their cases had previously been heard and submitted to
the Office of the Prosecutor before the final ruling was carried out.
The executions come amid an increase in capital punishments
by Somalia’s military court against al-Shabaab operatives. Several convicted
militants have been executed in recent weeks, while others remain on death row
or are awaiting trial.
