Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Saturday praised educators and students after the release of the 2024–2025 national examination results, marking a milestone in the country’s effort to rebuild its education system after decades of conflict.
At a ceremony organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education, the president also launched the 2025–2026 school year and celebrated the completion of a nationwide teacher training program that reached 3,000 educators.
According to the ministry, 37,052 students sat for the Grade 12 national exams this year, with 34,742 passing and 2,310 failing, representing a national pass rate of 93.8 percent. Mogadishu recorded the highest turnout, with 23,674 candidates, followed by Southwest (5,904), Galmudug (3,223), Hirshabelle (2,974), Jubaland (2,097), and Khatumo (1,520).
President Mohamud commended the ministry’s staff for successfully administering the exams and for what he described as crucial efforts to provide Somali children with a “quality and unified education.” He also urged the Higher Education Commission to strengthen university-level standards and promote research, stressing that Somalia’s development depends on the knowledge of its youth.
Education officials hailed the results and teacher training program as a significant achievement, underscoring progress in expanding access to learning despite insecurity and limited resources.
