Kismayo (HOL) – Jubbaland State Police Force destroyed sites
used by the Al-Shabaab group to illegally collect taxes from farmers during a
security operation along the riverbanks in the Jammaame district of the Lower
Juba region.
According to officers leading the operation, the forces also
destroyed a small boat that the group had been using to secretly cross the
river to the opposite side of the area.
“Today’s operation is part of ongoing efforts to ensure
security in the area, targeting locations where Al-Shabaab is attempting to
harm the people,” said one of the Jubbaland police officers who spoke to the
media.
Officials noted that local residents were cooperating well
with the forces, which enabled them to obtain accurate information that
contributed to the success of the operation. They also urged farmers and the
local community to further strengthen their cooperation with the security
forces.
The operation comes as Jubbaland intensifies efforts to
ensure security and curb Al-Shabaab activities in parts of the Lower Juba
region.
