Deputy Prime Minister Abdisalaan Abdi Ali oversees the signing of contracts for the Nagaad Project, a major road rehabilitation initiative in Mogadishu. The agreement, signed by Banadir Governor and Mogadishu Mayor Mohamed Ahmed Amiir, aims to improve key transport routes in the capital. The ceremony, held at the Banadir Regional Administration headquarters, was attended by government officials and business leaders.

NAIROBI, Kenya (HOL) — Somalia has signed contracts with four construction firms to upgrade key roads in Mogadishu, marking a significant investment in the capital’s infrastructure and economic development.

The contracts, finalized Tuesday at the Banadir Regional Administration headquarters, are part of the Nagaad Project, an initiative overseen by the Ministry of Public Works. The agreements were formally signed by Banadir Governor and Mogadishu Mayor Mohamed Ahmed Amir, with Deputy Prime Minister Abdisalan Abdi Ali presiding over the ceremony.

The project will restore and expand critical roadways across Mogadishu, including Keysaneey Road, the completion of Dayniile Road, the main road in Kahda District, the road leading to Madina Hospital, the route from Nasiib-Buundo to the Presidential Palace, and connector roads between Shangani and Via Roma in Hamar Weyne District. The initiative is expected to improve urban mobility, enhance business accessibility, and reduce congestion in major districts.

Only four companies were awarded contracts out of 28 that initially submitted bids after a competitive selection process overseen by government authorities. The firms chosen for the road rehabilitation project are Kulmiye Construction, Docol Construction, Dhis Engineering, and Buruuj Builders.

Minister of Public Works Dr. Elmi Mohamud Nur stressed the government’s determination to modernize Somalia’s road network, noting that improved infrastructure is key to economic recovery and urban development.
