Mogadishu (HOL) — A roadside bomb killed two Somali elders
and wounded their two security guards Thursday in an attack on their vehicle
near Mogadishu, officials said.
The explosion occurred in Jabad Geelle village in the Elasha
Biyaha area, about 15 kilometers south of the capital. The victims were
identified as Ali Kadawe and Mohamed Omar. The injured guards were taken to a
Mogadishu hospital, authorities said.
Local reports suggest the elders were surveying land when
the bomb detonated. Land disputes have been a recurring source of tension in
and around Mogadishu in recent years.
Security forces from the Somali Police and National
Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) arrived at the scene and launched an
operation, though no arrests or claims of responsibility have been reported.
Roadside bomb attacks in Somalia have declined compared to
previous years, but Thursday’s blast has sparked renewed fear among residents.
