Mogadishu (HOL) — A Somali military court on Monday executed
two men convicted of carrying out bombings and targeted killings on behalf of
the Al-Shabaab militant group.

The convicts, identified as Anas Abdulqadir Ali Mahmoud,
known as “Salman,” and Aden Mursal Mohamed Iidow, were executed by firing squad
in Mogadishu, officials said.

The court found the men guilty of planning and executing a
series of deadly attacks, including targeted assassinations of civilians and
government officials, as well as bombings in various parts of Somalia.

They were also implicated in a terrorist attack in
Gaalkacyo, Puntland, that killed prominent community leaders, including elders
and traditional figures.

Military prosecutors said the men actively participated in
atrocities and acts of intimidation against civilians. After reviewing evidence
and hearing witness testimonies, the court sentenced them to death, and the
executions were carried out in accordance with the verdict.

Al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda-affiliated group, has continued its
insurgency against Somalia’s federal government despite ongoing military
operations aimed at dismantling its network.
