Mogadishu (HOL) — Somalia and Djibouti signed a Memorandum
of Understanding (MoU) on Saturday to establish a formal mechanism for regular
political consultations between the two countries.
Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International
Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, and Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Ambassador Abdulqadir Hussein Omar, signed the agreement during a meeting in
Mogadishu.
The MoU aims to strengthen diplomatic cooperation and
advance the two nations’ priorities at regional and global levels. Discussions
also focused on enhancing bilateral ties, promoting security and regional
stability, and addressing international issues of mutual interest.
Both ministers stressed the importance of close
collaboration to achieve peace, development, and prosperity across the Horn of
Africa. However, neither government disclosed further details about the
agreement.
Somalia and Djibouti, which share deep historical and cultural
ties, continue to build on their longstanding partnership to promote
cooperation and closer relations.
