Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali police on Sunday seized two
containers of narcotics at Mogadishu’s main port, officials said, as
investigations continue to identify those behind the shipment.

Police spokesperson Abdifatah Adan Hassan told reporters
that the containers held large quantities of banned substances, including
Tramadol and codeine syrup, as well as a pill known locally as Bilig bilig.

“The narcotics we seized contained 17 cartons, 112 cartons
of Tramadol, and 120 cartons of codeine syrup — all of which pose a serious
health risk to Somali youth,” Abdifatah said.

He warned that authorities will take strict action against
those involved in smuggling the drugs into the country, noting that narcotic
abuse has become increasingly common among young people.

The seizure comes a day after police intercepted 48 sacks of
narcotics at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, part of an ongoing
crackdown on drug trafficking networks.
