Dhusamareb (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday inaugurated a series of new government facilities in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug.

The president, joined by Galmudug State President Ahmed Abdi Kariye, known as Qoor-Qoor, cut the ribbon for the newly constructed Galmudug House of Representatives, a modern building designed to reinforce the state’s legislative functions. He also opened the new municipal headquarters in Dhusamareb, a facility intended to expand delivery of essential public services, and inaugurated a road construction quality laboratory that will monitor standards for roads and other infrastructure projects.
“Today Galmudug has reached a stage where it can serve as an example for other federal member states in Somalia,” Mohamud said in a speech to state lawmakers. “It is a pleasure for me to witness the planning and implementation of these projects, which will significantly advance the development and governance of Galmudug.”
Galmudug’s leader, Qoor-Qoor, has previously said the region has reaped significant benefits from development programs jointly managed with the federal government, describing them as evidence of deepening cooperation between Mogadishu and federal member states.
Alongside the inaugurations, Mohamud held high-level meetings with Galmudug officials focused on intensifying ongoing operations against al-Shabab. Discussions centered on strategies to recapture areas of Galgaduud and Mudug that remain under militant control.
