Mogadishu (HOL) – The Verification and Approval Committee of
the Northeastern State Parliament on Sunday released the official list of
members of the new State Parliament, ending weeks of political disputes among
clans and politicians.

The newly announced legislature consists of 83 MPs, making
the Northeastern Somali administration one of the largest regional parliaments
in the country.

According to the committee, the seats are distributed across
Sool region (30 MPs), Sanaag region (37 MPs), and Buuhoodle district in
Togdheer (16 MPs).

The majority of the appointees are young newcomers to
politics, with the list also featuring several well-known social media
influencers.

The MPs are scheduled to be sworn in on the same day.
Following their oath, they will elect a temporary speaker from among themselves
to oversee parliamentary business until a permanent speaker is chosen.

So far, none of the declared presidential candidates have
commented on the announcement. Opposition politicians had previously contested
the legitimacy of the vetting and approval process carried out by the
committee.
