Baidoa (HOL) — Somali Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre held talks with traditional elders of the Southwest state in Baidoa on Thursday, focusing on their vital role in nation-building and the governance of Somalia.

The meeting, attended by Southwest state President Abdiasis Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen, highlighted the elders’ contribution to peace, reconciliation, and resolving social conflicts, particularly in the Southwest regions.

Prime Minister Barre emphasized the importance of elders in safeguarding the unity and sovereignty of the Somali nation. He urged them to avoid any actions that could harm national unity, acknowledging their critical role in supporting the federal system in Somalia.

“We admire the elders’ role in government building and promoting the federal system. They remain a crucial pillar in shaping the future of our country,” said Barre.
