Mogadishu (HOL) – Somali army forces have killed 24 al-Shabab militants and wounded 30 others during a military operation in the Lower Shabelle region, according to military officials.
The operation, carried out by the seventh brigade of the Somali National Army (SNA), targeted several small villages, including Kaliga, Libahale, Kaharow, Doonka, and Bululow, where the militants had gathered in recent days.
“More than 24 militants were killed, and over 30 others were injured. The army also destroyed one of the group’s vehicles, though the militants fled with a bag of medicines,” the federal government said in a statement.
The operation was led by military commander Ahmed Abdi Ali Ahmed Gashaan, who emphasized that such offensives will continue until al-Shabab is eradicated from the region.
“We will not stop until we clear al-Shabab from Lower Shabelle,” he said.
This military action coincides with the ongoing National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting in Mogadishu, where federal and regional leaders discuss key issues, including the progress of military operations against al-Shabab.
