Hargeisa (HOL) — Somaliland’s Supreme Court on Wednesday officially declared opposition candidate Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro the winner of the presidential election, endorsing the earlier announcement by the Somaliland National Electoral Commission.

Supreme Court Chairman Aden Haji Ali confirmed that Abdullahi, representing the Waddani Party, secured the presidency, while Mohamed Ali Abdi Mohamud, also from Waddani, was elected vice president. The ruling reaffirmed the party’s dominance over the political landscape, defeating rival Kulmiye and UCID candidates.

Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, 69, a former Speaker of Somaliland’s Parliament, won over 50% of the votes cast in November’s election, decisively defeating outgoing President Muse Bihi Abdi, who received just over 30%.

Outgoing President Muse Bihi Abdi congratulated President-elect Abdullahi on his victory and pledged a peaceful power transfer.
