Mogadishu (HOL) – The Somali government has applauded the UN
Security Council’s decision to sanction three al-Shabab leaders at the Somali
government’s request.

The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Daud
Aweis Jama, praised the decision in a post on his X account (formerly Twitter),
stating that the individuals are now on the sanctions list under Resolution
2713, facing financial restrictions and travel bans.

The statement noted that those sanctioned would be denied
access to funds and subjected to travel restrictions.

Since 2007, al-Shabaab has been fighting the Somali
government and the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), a
multidimensional mission authorized by the African Union and mandated by the
United Nations Security Council.
