Mogadishu (HOL) — Armed community militias attacked Danab troops near the Eel Baraf area in the Middle Shabelle region last night, resulting in deaths and injuries on both sides, according to reports.
The Danab forces, who had reportedly left Jowhar town and were en route to the Hiraan region, engaged in a brief conflict with the militias. The exact number of casualties remains unknown.
The attack is believed to have been motivated by tribalism, as the armed forces were on leave and heading to their home region of Hiraan. This incident marks one of the first clan-based conflicts in recent times.
The clash comes amid a series of violent encounters in recent months along the border between Hiraan and Middle Shabelle.
