Jowhar (HOL) — Five people were killed and eight others injured on Monday when a car carrying civilians struck a roadside mine and exploded in the Golaley area of the Bal’ad district, Middle Shabelle region, according to Balcad District Governor Qasim Ali Noor.

The victims were travelling to Mogadishu when the explosion occurred, just before African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) troops passed through the same road.

“The deceased were all civilians coming from the rural area to Mogadishu. These terrorists do not distinguish between civilians and government officials; they have started targeting civilians indiscriminately,” Governor Qasim Ali Noor said.

The road between Bal’ad and Jowhar has experienced multiple landmine explosions targeting both civilians and government officials, as well as ATMIS forces. This incident adds to the ongoing violence and instability in the region.
