Beledweyne (HOL) — A government soldier and a civilian were killed in a landmine explosion at a restaurant in Beledweyne’s Hawo Tako neighbourhood, specifically in the Guufaale area, on Wednesday.
The explosion also injured a woman who was running the restaurant. She has been taken to a medical facility in Beledweyne, the capital of the Hiiraan region.
Security forces quickly arrived at the scene, halting the movement of people and vehicles to conduct investigations. The restaurant where the explosion occurred is known to be frequented by government soldiers.
The blast, which was heard across several parts of Beledweyne, comes as explosive attacks have declined in the city. Beledweyne remains contested by the Hiiraan State and Hirshabelle administrations, contributing to ongoing tensions in the area.
