Mogadishu (HOL) – The Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has issued a public warning against any dealings with Hassan Ali Mohamed, commonly known as Hassan Afgoye, a senior leader of the al-Shabaab group.

In a statement released on Monday, NISA described Hassan Afgoye as responsible for overseeing al-Shabaab’s financial extortion operations and maintaining contacts with businesses to collect illicit funds.

“NISA is closely monitoring all means of communication used by this man and warns the public to avoid dealing with him or being near his locations, as the federal government has imposed a total ban on this leader,” the statement read.

NISA also called on Somali citizens to assist authorities in locating and apprehending Hassan Afgoye.

The warning comes a day after NISA, in collaboration with Somalia’s federal Internet and media regulators, disabled over 12,000 online accounts allegedly linked to al-Shabaab. These accounts reportedly propagated the group’s ideology and spread disinformation across social media platforms and websites.

The agency urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious accounts or activities to law enforcement as part of the ongoing efforts to dismantle al-Shabaab’s network.
