Bosaso (HOL) — Puntland Police have arrested Mohamed Abshir Muse, accused of killing Khalid Ali Khalid Awmuuse, the Deputy Finance and Administration Chair of East Africa University, in Bosaso on July 29, 2024. Muse was captured at 6:00 a.m. in the Durduri area near Bosaso with the assistance of local elders.
Muse was captured after a two-day manhunt.
Khalid Ali Khalid Awmuuse was a respected figure at East Africa University who was taught for several years before working in administration. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Khalid. He was a valued member of our team and a mentor to many,” said a spokesperson for East Africa University. “We urge the authorities to ensure that justice is served.”
Muse, who had been disciplined previously for financial misconduct, was an employee in the university’s finance office and Awmuuse’s underling. Sources indicate that professional disagreements between Muse and Awmuuse may have escalated to the tragic event.
Muse will be brought before a court and tried. If convicted, he could face death under Puntland’s legal system. Authorities have assured the public that the investigation is ongoing, and more details will be released as they become available.
Residents have expressed concerns over the incident, calling for increased security measures and greater cooperation. “This is a wake-up call for all of us. We need to work together to ensure our community is safe and that criminals are apprehended to face justice,” said a local elder who assisted in the capture of Muse.
