Mogadishu (HOL) – The Somali Cabinet of Ministers has approved the appointment of Abdullahi Mohamed Ali Sanbaloolshe as the new director of the National Security and Intelligence Agency of Somalia (NISA) during the council’s weekly meeting in Mogadishu on Thursday.

The newly appointed Director, Abdullahi Sanbaloolshe, has previously held the position of Director of NISA twice and has also served in other roles, including Minister and Ambassador. Currently, he is a member of the lower house.

According to the country’s constitution, the prominent Member of Parliament, a close ally of the new president, will automatically lose his parliamentary seat.

A statement from the Cabinet of Ministers meeting affirmed that the National Security and Intelligence Agency director, Abdullahi Mohamed Ali, possesses knowledge and experience in National Intelligence and Security activities.

The Somali Cabinet of Ministers also expressed gratitude to the former National Security and Intelligence Agency director, Mahad Mohamed Salad, for his service during his tenure without specifying the reason behind his removal.

However, reports suggest he intends to run for the Galmudug leadership election this year.

Mahad Mohamed Salad has been the NISA director since May 26, 2022, following President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s re-election. The outgoing director congratulated the new director, Abdullahi Mohamed Ali Sanbaloolshe, on his new role.
