LONDON, September 3 (IranMania) – Djibouti President Ismael Omar Gelleh accompanying a delegation arrived and was officially welcomed by Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki at Mehrabad Airport, IRNA reported.
A ceremony to receive President Omar Gelleh will be held at Presidential Office tomorrow by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Ahmadinejad is currently on a visit to West Azarbaijan province and is expected to return to Tehran after a cabinet meeting in Orumiyeh in which he will study development projects envisaged for the province.
During his three-day stay in Tehran, President Omar Gelleh is scheduled to hold talks with President Ahmadinejad and Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki.
Ahmadinejad held talks with President Omar Gelleh in Gambia on July 2 on the sidelines of the Africa Union (AU) Summit and invited the Djibouti president to visit Iran.
The republic of Djibouti is in the Horn of Africa, at the southern entrance to the Red Sea. It is bounded on the north by Eritrea, on the north, west and south-west by Ethiopia, and on the south-east by Somalia.
There are two main ethnic groups, the Issa, who are of Somali origin and comprise 50 percent of the population and the Afar, who comprise 40 percent of the population and are of Ethiopian origin.
Both groups are Muslims and they speak related Cushitic languages.
The official languages are Arabic and French.
It has a population of 623,000 according to mid-1998 UN estimates.
Its principal towns are Djibouti (capital), Dikhil, Ali-Sabieh, Tadjourah and Obock
