This post is initially funded for one year. The successful candidate will need to be Somali and English speaking, and a dynamic self-starter who can drive this development work forward in this short space of time, using a variety of mechanisms and resources.
Having had experience of working with the Somali community you will undertake outreach work, manage community events and work with the community to understand the social, economic, physical and mental health issues surrounding the effects of khat use.
You will be using your partnership working skills to ensure that statutory and non-statutory agencies alike are aware of the issues for the community and begin to participate in joined up work in this area. Your proven communication skills will enable you to work effectively with the very diverse and numerous Somali community groups who will be keen to ensure the project’s success and future development.
Under the steering group’s direction you may be asked to undertake research into the needs of the community around khat to ensure that drug services are commissioned and developed to meet the appropriate needs of all sections of the Somali community, including women and young people.
