MUSCAT — During the upcoming days, the Sultanate of Oman will print the new Somali passport, which includes one million editions, an official Somali source said yesterday.
Hassan Ahmed Jamie, Somali Foreign Ministry undersecretary, who is here on a visit, said the Sultanate provided a significant support to the Somali government by allowing a local company to issue Somali passport in the Sultanate.
The passport will be printed in the Sultanate, which accommodates the printing equipment and the database of the new passports of Somali citizens.
The new passport could not be forged, Jamie said, adding that the Sultanate was chosen in its capacity as an internationally recognised safe and secure place to print passports.
The details of the Somali citizens would be electronically transferred to the Sultanate, where the passports would be issued.
The Somali citizen will receive his/her passport within 10 days, he added.
Jamie expressed his appreciation for the Diwan of Royal Court, the Foreign Ministry and the security apparatuses concerned for their consent for printing passports here.
