VICTOR Football club marksman Yuda Mugalu was the hero as the Uganda Hippos trounced Somalia 4-0 in their opening match of the Council for East and Central Africa (Cecafa) Youth Championships in Bujumbura, Burundi.
The youthful forward hit a first half brace before Manko Kaweesa , Andrew Ssali and Julius Mulindwa completed the rout that gave the national U-20 side a bright start to the campaign.
Half time score was 4-0 for the Hippos. The Hippos, who are pooled in a tough Group A alongside hosts Burundi, Zanzibar, Somalia and Rwanda will have to improve on their scoring as they wasted lots of chances in yesterday’s game.
Team tactician Frank ‘Video’ Anyau said team spirit had helped the team to win but added that they must change their attitude towards certain teams in the tournament if they are to win the annual championship.
“The team played very good soccer generally but misses lots of chances just because they under-estimated Somalia. They should have scored more than they did,” Anyau said.
Somalia, which has been the whipping boys of the group, will pack their bags after their last match against Zanzibar on Saturday after they fell to Burundi and Rwanda with each team beating them 4-0.
