During the meeting, Ahmadinejad said that the two countries share many identical stances on regional and global issues, adding that solidarity and unity of Muslim states would result into their strength and economic progress. “On the basis of the same rationale, the Islamic Republic of Iran has decided to expand its cooperation with Djibouti in different areas,” he stated. Reiterating the necessity for the adoption of new decisions about Africa, Ahmadinejad pointed out that Africa contains rich resources and enjoys great potentials which can be used to materialize long-term objectives. Briefing his counterpart on Iran’s legitimate and logical stance on its nuclear case, the Iranian President reminded, “certain western governments have adopted a politically-driven approach towards Iran’s nuclear case.” “While they make use of their own atomic bombs against innocent people, they oppose Iran’s peaceful access to nuclear energy,” he added. The President stressed that Iran’s policy is based on holding constructive talks on nuclear issues without any preconditions. For his part, Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Gurlleh said Iran enjoys a high standing in the world, thanks to efforts, determination and self-confidence of its nation. He further praised dignity and rich culture as factors for resistance and preservation of scientific and cultural independence of the Iranian nation. Iranian President is in the Gambian capital city of Banjul to attend the 7th summit of African Union (AU) and he has already attended meetings with different African heads of state, including Libyan President Muammar al-Qadhafi and Chad’s President Idriss Deby. During these meetings, the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest and stressed the significance of the development of mutual cooperation.
