Silver Spring, Maryland — The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) has appointed Ronald Sandoval as country director for the ADRA office in Somalia.

In his new position, Sandoval’s responsibilities include promoting and representing ADRA Somalia in all relationships with government agencies in Somalia, other non-governmental organizations, visiting representatives, and other offices in the ADRA network. He is also responsible for overseeing the strategic planning of the office’s developmental and emergency management programs, initiating fundraising activities, and recruiting and managing staff.

Since 1989, Sandoval has served in a variety of managerial positions for ADRA International and in ADRA offices around the world, including Bolivia, Peru, Mozambique, and Kenya. This is Sandoval’s first appointment as country director.

“I want to thank God for this significant opportunity, and also our staff for making my job easy because of their commitment and sacrifice in Somalia’s development,” said Sandoval, during an interview with ADRA Somalia. “I also want to thank our field staff who work in difficult and demanding environments while implementing our projects. . . . In addition, I would also like to thank the authorities in Somalia that allow us to work with them for a better Somalia. Finally, I want to thank my wife and children for the support they give me every day.”

ADRA has been operating in Somalia since 1992 implementing emergency relief and development interventions in different sectors. Since then, ADRA has managed over 50 projects in eight sectors, including: water access and sanitation; primary health care; education; food security; infrastructure; institutional capacity building; micro-enterprise development; and emergency response interventions.

ADRA is present in 125 countries, providing community development and emergency management without regard to political or religious association, age, or ethnicity.
