Dhumasareb (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud
and Galmudug State President Ahmed Abdi Karie on Thursday inspected
construction work at Ugaas Nuur Airport, a key infrastructure project aimed at
boosting regional connectivity.
Engineers briefed the leaders on progress and timelines for
the modernization effort, which is designed to bring the airport up to
international aviation standards. Officials say the project will improve air
travel, facilitate trade and strengthen links between central Somalia and the
rest of the country.
The development of modern infrastructure, including
airports, is seen as critical for reviving local economies and supporting
ongoing stabilization efforts in conflict-affected regions.
Once completed, the Ugaas Nuur facility is expected to
provide a major logistical advantage for Galmudug, enhancing commerce and
improving access for humanitarian and security operations.
