Mogadishu (HOL) —Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud received letters of credence on Tuesday from eight newly appointed ambassadors.
The new envoys represent Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Mexico, Venezuela, South Korea, Mauritania, and Iraq. The credentials ceremony was held at Villa Somalia in Mogadishu, where President Mohamud welcomed the ambassadors and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
“This celebrates a new phase of diplomatic engagement,” the president said. “We are committed to building strong and enduring partnerships across all sectors—security, development, and diplomacy.”
The president urged the new ambassadors to actively engage with Somali institutions and to support initiatives that promote peace, trade, and regional integration.
The ambassadors who presented their credentials are:
- Suleiman Dedefo Woshe, Ambassador of Ethiopia
- Robert Ifriyie, Ambassador of Ghana
- Maes Ennio, Ambassador of Ivory Coast
- Alejandro Eves Estivill Castro, Ambassador of Mexico
- Moravia Peralt Hernandez, Ambassador of Venezuela
- Kang Hyundshik, Ambassador of South Korea
- Hussein Deh, Ambassador of Mauritania
- Kahtan Taha Khalaf, Ambassador of Iraq
Somalia’s growing diplomatic outreach reflects its ambition to reposition itself as a regional actor and reliable international partner. The country continues to seek broader engagement in areas including post-conflict recovery, economic reform, and counterterrorism cooperation.
The accreditation of new ambassadors underscores Mogadishu’s efforts to reestablish strong foreign relations after decades of conflict and institutional fragmentation.
