Mogadishu (HOL) — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Djibouti on Saturday following an official invitation from Djiboutian President Ismael Omar Guelleh.

The two leaders are set to discuss enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation in security, economic development, and regional issues, according to the Somali government.

The visit comes shortly after President Mohamud meets with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki in Asmara, where discussions centered on strengthening ties and addressing mutual regional concerns. Observers suggest the recent diplomatic engagements are linked to the Somalia-Ethiopia agreement, which resolved a year-long diplomatic rift between Mogadishu and Addis Ababa.

During their meeting in Eritrea earlier this week, Presidents Mohamud and Afwerki emphasized the critical role of Somalia’s stability in ensuring peace across the Horn of Africa, according to a statement from Eritrea’s Foreign Ministry.

President Mohamud’s Djibouti visit also follows a trilateral summit in October, where the leaders of Somalia, Eritrea, and Egypt met in Asmara amid rising regional tensions. The meetings reflect ongoing efforts to address security challenges and foster cooperation among Horn of Africa nations.
