Jigjiga (HOL) — Defying expectations, the Nogob region football team defeated Afdheer 2-1 to claim their first-ever title in the 11th Somali Region Football Tournament, held in Jigjiga on Sunday.
The final match was played at Jigjiga Stadium, where intense competition was seen between the two teams. Nogob’s victory came as a shock to many, given Afdheer’s historical dominance in regional football.
Despite their loss, Afdheer was recognized for its commendable performance and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. They received various prizes, including an award for good conduct.
The Vice President of the Somali Regional Government, Ibrahim Osman, awarded the trophy to Nogob in a post-match ceremony.
