Baidoa (HOL) – Several casualties were reported after a
clash between Southwest State Darwish forces and clan militia forces erupted in
the Bardale district of the Bay region on Saturday.
According to residents, the intense fighting broke out after
the clan militia launched a strong attack on army positions in the district.
The militia forces that attacked the army bases had been
forcefully expelled from the district by security forces last month. This new
attack follows the collapse of mediation talks between the two sides.
Earlier last month, Somali police forces in Southwest State
cleared ten illegal checkpoints in the Bardale district, where militias had
been extorting money from vehicles and residents.
