Heliwa police commander, deputy receive death sentence after murder conviction

Mogadishu (HOL) – The Military Court in Somalia sentenced Abdifatah Mohamed Hassan Qoslaye, the Heliwa Police Station commander, and his deputy, Mohamed Abdi Mohamed Qoone, to death by firing squad for the kidnapping and murder of Abukar Ahmed Kabah on February 24, 2024. The court found both individuals guilty of orchestrating Kabah’s death in Mogadishu.

In related judgments, the court sentenced Liban Mohamed Omar to 15 years and Hassan Mohamed Saeed Dhindin to an equal term in military prison. Accomplices Mohamed Adawe Ali and Yasin Abdi Jama each received 10-year sentences for their roles in the conspiracy.

Additionally, the court stripped Commander Qoslaye and Dable Mohamed Abdi Qone of their military ranks and expelled them from the Somali Police Force.

The court acquitted Mohamed Hassan Osman, finding no evidence of his involvement in the crime. It was also noted that the verdicts could be appealed within 30 days.
