Mogadishu (HOL) – The Banadir Regional Police Command has imposed a ban on demonstrations in Mogadishu.

Moalin Mahdi, commander of the Banadir regional police, condemned the protest that erupted yesterday at the Sinai Market in Mogadishu.

A civilian lost his life in the protest after being shot by security forces of the Federal Government of Somalia.

Commander Mahdi noted that the soldiers who fired on the demonstrators at Sinai Market have been detained, with investigations ongoing.

“All individuals who shot at the protestors are in custody, and the case is now with the investigators. We hope the judiciary will promptly address this incident,” the Banadir police commander told reporters on Sunday.

He also stated that harassing the public is unacceptable, and he warned Mogadishu residents not to stage a demonstration without informing local authorities.

“This is a final warning to those fostering unrest in this city. Such actions are unacceptable and only worsen the situation,” Commander Moalin Mahdi remarked.

The recent demonstration in the Sinai Market was aimed at protesting the Wartanabad district’s administration. It was confirmed that the gunfire at the protest resulted in one young man’s death and left two others injured.
